Lattice™ Picturebox
LatticeTM Picturebox
The Picturebox suite is a premium, high performance, video-based control system from VML-Technologies embracing SPX, DDX, DSBX and RS-Block or SPX, DDX, PSBX. It is used to control all VML Lattice™ LED video products. Designed for flexibility and simplicity, combined with unmatched pixel mapping capabilities, to deliver the largest, most complex media facade installations, with the lowest component count.
Picturebox-SPX
The Picturebox-SPX is the system centrepiece, designed to accept a digital DVI input signal up to full HD resolution. It formats the video data to perfectly align with the programmed pixel map, representing the actual location of the LED pixels on the Media Facade. Formatted data is transmitted via two available optical fiber outputs (Fiber A, Fiber B) to two Picturebox-DDX connected in parallel, for further distribution to the LED Media facade. Remote status data including ambient brightness levels and Scan Board temperature can be fed back to the Picturebox-SPX via a return fiber link (DIAG), if required.
Picturebox-DDX
The Picturebox-DDX (Data Distribution Box) receives a high-speed serial data stream via a fiber optic link from the Picturebox-SPX, which may be located up to 500 m away. Remote data can be fed back to the Picturebox-SPX via a return fiber link (DIAG), if required. The Picturebox-DDX splits the input data stream between the six (6) BNC outputs connected via a coaxial cable link to Picturebox-DSBX units which may be located up to 90 m away. Each BNC output has an associated return BNC input that may be used to receive remote data back from the Picturebox-DSBX units.A brightness sensor input capability facilitates the connection of an optional light sensor (located close to the LED Media Facade), which measures ambient brightness levels that are then relayed back to the Picturebox-SPX. Furthermore, there is an output to a relay box which may be used to control local equipment, if required.
Picturebox-DSBX
The Picturebox-DSBX (Dual Scan Board) takes the parallel data stream from the Picturebox-DDX, and converts the pixel values into 48 bit, serial “scanning data”. This data is transmitted via a RS-Block to the pixels of the LED Media Facade to illuminate each pixel at the correct brightness and color. Each DSBX can control up to 16 384 pixels via its 16 output channels of up to 1 024 pixels, each of which is designated as a “data zone” in the pixel map. DSBX serial output data is in RS422 format, connected via RJ45 connectors using CAT 5e cable. Inside every DSBX unit there is a receiver board, for receiving and transmitting data, and two scan boards, each with 8 serial data output channels. Setting the ID addresses using the internal DIP switches on each Scan Board, selects the data blocks that are processed by the DSBX.
RS-Block
The RS-Block is the interface between the Picturebox-DSBX serial data outputs and the LED Media Facade pixels. It converts RS422 data to TTL data suitable for direct connection to the LED Media Facade and can handle up to 1 024 pixels in one “data zone” of the pixel map. There are two versions of the RS-Block available; one which is weatherproof (IP67), suitable for outdoor environments, and one which is only suitable for indoor environments. The outdoor model features a single, combined power and data output cable whereas the indoor model features separate power and data output cables. Both feature separate power and data input cables. The RS-Block +48 VDC input powers the internal circuitry and is connected directly to a +48 VDC output which is used to power the first section of LED Media Facade. The RS-Block must be located within 2.5 m of the LED Media Facade data input and is typically installed within the support frame such that it is not visible from the front side.
Picturebox PSBX
The Picturebox-PSBX takes the parallel data stream from the Picturebox-DDX, and converts the pixel values into 48-bit, serial “scanning data”. This data is transmitted to the pixels of the LED Media Façade to illuminate each pixel at the correct brightness and color. Each PSBX can control up to 10 240 pixels via its 10 output channels of up to 1 024 pixels, each of which is designated as a “data zone” in the pixel map. PSBX serial output data is in RS422 format. Inside every PSBX there is a receiver board, for receiving and transmitting data, and a Scan Board, each with 10 serial data output channels. Setting the ID addresses using the internal DIP switches on each Scan Board, selects the data blocks that are processed by the PSBX.
Every PSBX incorporates an inrush current limiter that limits mains inrush current at switch-on, thereby overcoming potential nuisance tripping of circuit breakers. Each PSBX must be connected to its own miniature circuit breaker (minimum rating C16) and a 30 mA, residual current device to a single mains feed from the mains distribution board (MDB).
Key features
Why choose VML-Technologies Lattice™ products
Minimise power consumption and maximise efficiency
Optimise system configurations
LED Media Façade installations typically require a substantial amount of power and data cables, cable ducts, and cable pulling. Minimizing wiring reduces installation complexity, power consumption and overall cost.
At VML we offer solutions tailored to the unique needs of each location to ensure optimal system efficiency and installation convenience. Therefore we offer two options for the system configuration for all Lattice™ products. Both systems are based on the proprietary VML Picturebox processing, but they differ in some processing components, and cabling. Both system options deliver the exact same high-performance levels, with the choice depending on equipment placement options and wiring preferences.
- Option 1: Individual power and data feed to Lattice™ Fixture chains
- Option 2: Combined power and data feed to Lattice™ LED fixture chains
