The owners of the Emporium Mall in Melbourne, Australia, sought to create a ground-breaking advertising display that would not only honour the building’s striking diamond-shaped façade but also push the boundaries of digital signage. The challenge was to design a unique LED Media display that seamlessly integrated into the façade’s diamond-shaped angular geometry while offering unparalleled performance to showcase prestigious global brands 24/7. In addition, the solution had to achieve an exceptional level of transparency, ensuring unobstructed views for the exclusive triple-A restaurant located behind the screen.
VML-Technologies rose to the challenge with a custom-designed, diamond-shaped freeform M-series LED matrix, meticulously engineered to fit the complex, diagonal 3.6 m x 3.6 m façade structure. Each 450 mm x 450 mm high-brightness LED module was crafted with a pixel pitch of 37.5 mm, arranged in precision 8×8 diamond segments. To maintain the flawless visual integrity at the corner of the building, a specially designed triangular corner element was seamlessly incorporated, allowing the display to flow around the building’s sharp edges without distortion.
Achieving a remarkable 65% transparency, the ultra-slim design of the LED matrix fingers allowed the display to blend harmoniously into its architectural environment, preserving both the visual appeal and structural elegance of the façade. The VML Picturebox controller’s advanced processing algorithm ensured that the display produced stunningly crisp and vivid images both day and night, flawlessly rendering the complex diagonal pixel grid with remarkable clarity and precision.
This bespoke solution not only meets but exceeds the expectations of the Emporium Mall’s discerning clientele, setting a new standard for cutting-edge, transparent digital signage.
