The O2 Arena in London, originally built as the Millennium Dome, was designed by the acclaimed architect Sir Richard Rogers and his firm, Rogers Stirk Harbour + Partners. Completed in 1999, the Dome was a centrepiece project for the celebration of the year 2000. Its striking design features a massive tensile fabric roof supported by 12 towering steel masts, making it one of the largest domed structures in the world.
Subsequently, the Dome underwent a major transformation into the O2 Arena, which was completed in 2007. The redevelopment, overseen by the architectural firm Populous, specialists in sports and entertainment venues, turned the structure into a world-class destination for events and performances.
As part of this transformation, a key feature was the integration of large LED display systems onto the 180-degree sections of the twelve circular towers encircling the Arena. Finally a custom-designed LED video tube and system was designed to configure the required LED Media Facade displays, capable of showcasing both static and dynamic footage and able to withstand the environmental conditions next to river Thames. The final systems feature 336 vertical LED video lines, each measuring 9.6 meters in height. The circular displays create stunning visuals from dusk to dawn and elevate the venue’s iconic status.
